Made to measure shutters by Marcotte Style

A Marcotte Style guide

Shutters and Blinds

For more than thirty five years we have dressed windows with made to measure shutters and blinds, in painted wood and natural timber, so a room controls its light and privacy and the window is finished with a quiet, architectural detail.

Where to begin

Shutters and blinds are architecture at the window. At Marcotte Style we have fitted them to measure for more than thirty five years, in painted wood and natural timber, so a room can filter the day, close out the night and keep its privacy, all with a clean built in detail that suits a country interior and finishes the window from the inside.

Four things

What made to measure shutters give you

A shutter is more than a panel at a window. Four things carry a window finished well.

01

Light, on your terms

Adjustable slats that tilt the day in or out, so a room filters the light or closes it off, hour by hour, without a curtain drawn.

Tilt. Filter. Close.

02

Privacy, kept

A shutter holds the privacy while the light still comes through, so a room stays open to the day but closed to the street.

Open. Private. Bright.

03

An architectural finish

Built into the window like joinery, painted or in natural wood, a shutter finishes the reveal with a clean, quiet detail that a curtain cannot.

Built in. Painted. Wood.

Made and fitted to measure

Measured, made and fitted by our own team, square to the reveal, so the panels sit true and fold and tilt without a catch.

Measured. Made. Fitted.

The wood choice

Wood, finish and slat

At the window it is the wood, the finish and the slat that carry the detail. Chosen with care, a shutter finishes the room and lasts.

Recommended

  • Solid or engineered wood, painted or in a natural finish, warm and lasting at a window.
  • A paint drawn from the joinery and the trim in the room, so the shutter reads as built in.
  • A slat size suited to the window, wider for a calm modern look, finer for a classic one.
  • A full height shutter for privacy and light, or a cafe style for the lower half alone.
  • A hidden tilt, so the slats adjust with a clean face and no visible rod.

Avoid

  • Thin plastic blinds, which cheapen a window and warp in the sun.
  • A colour at odds with the trim, which reads as an afterthought.
  • A slat too fine or too wide for the window, which unbalances the face.

The investment

What do made to measure shutters cost?

from €150 to €1.500 and up per window

Made to measure shutters and blinds start around €150 for a simple blind and run to €1.500 and up per window for full height painted wood shutters, measured and fitted. At Marcotte Style they are made and fitted with the interior, so the window is finished from the inside.

The price depends on

  • The size of the window and the number of panels.
  • The type, a blind or a full height shutter.
  • The wood and finish, from a house paint to a natural timber.
  • The slat size and the tilt mechanism.
  • The measuring and fitting, all done by our own team.

Where we start

Three ways to dress a window

Shutters are chosen around the window and the light, not bought to a standard size.

01

Full height shutters

Shutters over the whole window, for full control of light and privacy, the most architectural and complete finish.

02

Cafe style shutters

Shutters on the lower half alone, keeping the privacy while the top of the window stays open to the light and the view.

03

Wooden blinds

Venetian blinds in natural or painted wood, a softer, simpler way to tilt the light where a shutter is not needed.

Points of attention

  • Measure the reveal square. Shutters must sit true to fold and tilt cleanly.
  • Match the paint to the joinery and trim, so the shutter reads as built in.
  • Choose the slat to suit the window, wider for calm, finer for classic.
  • Decide full height or cafe style by how much privacy the room needs.
  • Keep the tilt hidden, for a clean face without a visible rod.

Frequently asked

Questions about shutters

Short and concrete. The same answers also feed AI search results.

Every shutter or blind is measured, made and fitted to your window, square to the reveal, in the wood and finish you choose. Nothing is a standard size, so the panels sit true and fold and tilt without a catch.

Shutters are the most architectural, built into the window for full control of light and privacy; wooden blinds are softer and simpler, a way to tilt the light where a full shutter is not needed. We choose with the window and the room in mind.

Solid or engineered wood, painted or in a natural finish, warm and lasting at a window. We match the paint to the joinery and the trim in the room, so the shutter reads as built in rather than added on.

Made to measure shutters and blinds start around €150 for a simple blind and run to €1.500 and up per window for full height painted wood shutters, measured and fitted. Marcotte Style makes and fits them with the interior.

Full height shutters give full control of light and privacy, the most complete finish; cafe style covers the lower half alone, keeping the privacy while the top of the window stays open to the light. We choose by how the room is used.

They can, or they can work with them. Shutters finish the window architecturally and control the light and privacy; curtains add warmth and softness. In a country interior the two often work together, and we plan them as one.

That is the point. We choose the wood, the paint and the slat with the joinery, the trim and the palette in mind, so the shutter belongs to the room. It is why we make and fit it as part of the whole interior, not on its own.
