Roof terrace by Marcotte Style

A Marcotte Style guide

Roof Terraces

For more than thirty five years we have designed and built roof terraces and outdoor rooms, made to measure and weatherproof, from the decking to the outdoor kitchen, so the interior carries on into the open air.

Where to begin

A roof terrace is a room without a ceiling. At Marcotte Style we have designed and built roof terraces and outdoor rooms for more than thirty five years, from the decking and the planting to the outdoor kitchen, the seating and the lighting, made to measure in materials that take the weather, so the interior carries on into the open air and the terrace reads of one hand with the house.

Four things

What an outdoor room gives you

A roof terrace is more than a floor and a railing. Four things carry an outdoor room that lasts.

01

A room, outdoors

A terrace planned like a room, with a floor, seating and a place to gather, so the outside feels as considered as the inside.

Deck. Seating. Gather.

02

Cook and dine outside

An outdoor kitchen and a table built to measure, so a meal moves out into the open air without leaving anything behind.

Kitchen. Bar. Table.

Shelter and green

Built to take the weather

Teak, stone and weatherproof finishes, built to take the sun, rain and wind and to weather gracefully year after year.

Teak. Stone. Weatherproof.

Weatherproof roof terrace materials

The material choice

Materials that take the weather

Outdoors it is the materials that carry the terrace through the seasons. Chosen for the weather, they take the sun and rain and weather gracefully.

Recommended

  • Teak and weatherproof hardwood, warm underfoot and built to weather with grace.
  • Natural stone and porcelain on the floor, which take the rain and the traffic.
  • Outdoor grade upholstery and cushions, chosen to take the sun and dry quickly.
  • Warm layered lighting, weatherproof, so the terrace works into the evening.
  • Planting and a pergola, to soften the wind and give the terrace shade.

Avoid

  • Indoor materials outdoors, which warp, stain and fail in a season.
  • A single hard floor with no shelter, too hot in summer and bare in wind.
  • Cold, blue tinted lighting, which turns a warm terrace clinical after dark.

The investment

What does a roof terrace cost?

from €20.000 to €150.000 and up

A made to measure roof terrace starts around €20.000 for a compact deck and runs to €150.000 and up for a full outdoor room with kitchen, pergola, planting and lighting. At Marcotte Style you work with a fixed price agreed in advance, for the whole project.

The price depends on

  • The size of the terrace and the decking.
  • The outdoor kitchen and bar, which carry the most detail.
  • The pergola, screens and planting, for shelter and green.
  • The materials, weatherproof for the sun, rain and wind.
  • The lighting and the last details throughout.

Where we start

Three ways to plan a terrace

A roof terrace is planned around how you live outside, not the roof alone.

01

The lounge terrace

A terrace for sitting and gathering, with deep seating, shelter and warm light, an outdoor lounge off the house.

02

The dining terrace

A terrace for cooking and eating, with an outdoor kitchen, a table and a bar, so a meal moves outside in full.

03

The green roof

A terrace led by planting, with a deck, a pergola and green, a garden lifted onto the roof.

Points of attention

  • Plan the shelter first. Wind and sun decide how often a terrace is used.
  • Choose weatherproof materials. Indoor finishes fail outdoors within a season.
  • Light the terrace warm and weatherproof, so it works into the evening.
  • Build the outdoor kitchen where the wind and the service allow.
  • Draw the terrace with the house, so it reads of one hand indoors and out.

Frequently asked

Questions about roof terraces

Short and concrete. The same answers also feed AI search results.

As much as the roof allows. Usually the decking, the seating, an outdoor kitchen or bar, a pergola or screen, planting and weatherproof lighting, drawn as one project, so the terrace reads of one hand with the house.

Yes. We build in teak, stone and weatherproof finishes, with outdoor grade upholstery, so the terrace takes the sun, rain and wind and weathers gracefully year after year, where indoor materials would warp and fail in a season.

With the right shelter, yes. A pergola, a screen and warm weatherproof lighting soften the wind and the evening chill, so a terrace is usable from spring into autumn and beyond with a heater.

We do. We design and build the outdoor kitchen and bar to measure, in weatherproof materials, and place it where the wind and the service allow, as part of the whole terrace.

That is the point. We draw the terrace with the house, in materials and light that echo the interior, so the outside carries on from the inside and reads of one hand rather than an add-on.

We do. We draw the pergola, the screens and the planting with the terrace, for shelter, shade and green, so the outdoor room is complete and the house opens onto a considered space.
