Made to measure country curtains by Marcotte Style

A Marcotte Style guide

Curtains

For more than thirty five years we have dressed windows in made to measure curtains, linen and wool, hung floor to ceiling and coordinated with the room, so a country home feels warm, quiet and finished.

Where to begin

Curtains are what make a room feel finished. At Marcotte Style we have made curtains to measure for more than thirty five years, in linen and wool, hung floor to ceiling and tuned to the light, so a window frames the view by day and closes the room in warmth after dark, always coordinated with the furniture and the walls.

Four things

What made to measure curtains give you

A curtain is more than a length of cloth at a window. Four things carry a window well dressed.

01

Warmth and quiet

Full, lined curtains soften a room, hold the heat and hush the sound, so a country interior feels calm and settled after dark.

Lined. Full. Floor to ceiling.

02

Light, on your terms

Layered curtains and sheers let you filter the day or close it out, so one window serves a bright morning and a private evening.

Curtain. Sheer. Layered.

03

Coordinated with the room

Fabric chosen to sit with the walls, the upholstery and the wood, so the curtain belongs to the room rather than hanging apart from it.

Linen. Wool. Tonal.

Made and hung to measure

Cut, sewn and hung by our own team, floor to ceiling on a concealed track, so the fall is clean and the header sits right.

The fabric choice

Fabric, colour and fall

At a window it is the fabric and the way it hangs that carry the room. Chosen with care, curtains warm an interior and tie it together.

Recommended

  • Natural linen and wool, which fall beautifully and age well in a country home.
  • A tone drawn from the room, the walls, the upholstery or the wood, so the curtain coordinates.
  • Full width and floor to ceiling, generous enough to fall in soft, even folds.
  • A lining, for warmth, body and a clean fall against the light.
  • A concealed track or a simple pole in aged brass, quiet at the top of the window.

Avoid

  • Thin, skimped curtains that hang flat and cheapen the room.
  • A loud print chasing a trend, which dates the room within a few years.
  • Curtains stopping at the sill, which cut the wall and shorten the window.

The investment

What do made to measure curtains cost?

from €400 to €2.500 and up per window

Made to measure curtains start around €400 for a simple window and run to €2.500 and up per window for full, lined curtains with sheers and a concealed track in a fine fabric. At Marcotte Style curtains are measured, made and hung by our own team, coordinated with the interior.

The price depends on

  • The size of the window and the fullness of the curtain.
  • The fabric, from a house linen to a fine woven wool.
  • The lining and any sheers, which add warmth and layers.
  • The track or pole and the header style.
  • The making and hanging, all done by our own team.

Where we start

Three ways to dress a window

Curtains are chosen around the room and the light, not the window alone.

01

Full curtains

Full, lined curtains floor to ceiling, for warmth, quiet and a finished room, the classic country choice.

02

Curtains and sheers

A layer of sheers behind the curtains, to filter the day and keep the privacy while the light still comes through.

03

Sheers alone

Light sheers on their own where a room needs softness and privacy but not the weight of full curtains.

Points of attention

  • Measure floor to ceiling, not just the window. Height lifts a room.
  • Choose the fabric with the walls and upholstery in the room, not from a sample alone.
  • Allow enough width for full, soft folds. Skimped curtains never recover.
  • Line the curtains for warmth, body and a clean fall.
  • Hide the track and let the fabric be seen.

Frequently asked

Questions about curtains

Short and concrete. The same answers also feed AI search results.

Every curtain is measured, cut, sewn and hung for your window, in the fabric and the fullness you choose. Nothing is off the shelf, so the fall, the header and the length are right for the room.

Mostly natural linen and wool, which fall beautifully, warm a room and age well in a country interior. We choose the fabric to sit with the walls, the upholstery and the wood, so the curtain coordinates rather than competes.

Almost always. Floor to ceiling curtains lift a room and frame the window fully, where curtains stopping at the sill cut the wall and shorten the window. We measure the full height for a clean, generous fall.

Made to measure curtains start around €400 for a simple window and run to €2.500 and up per window for full, lined curtains with sheers and a concealed track in a fine fabric. Marcotte Style measures, makes and hangs them with our own team.

We do. They are measured, cut and sewn in our own workshop and hung by our own team, so the making and the fit are ours from start to finish.

That is the point. We choose the fabric and colour with the furniture, the walls and the wood in mind, so the curtains belong to the room. It is why we make them as part of the whole interior, not on their own.

We do. Concealed tracks or simple poles in aged brass, with the rings, hooks and holdbacks to match, all measured and fitted with the curtains so the top of the window sits quiet and clean.
