What we did

A modern villa in Wilrijk, taken on completely. Marcotte Style did the building works and the fitted joinery, then delivered the furniture, the lighting, the curtains, the rugs and the hardware, down to the sculpted bronze handles on the glass doors.

Hall

The entrance hall is lined in dark wood panelling, with a built in bench and high gloss lacquered doors set flush into the same run. Marcotte Style drew the panelling and the joinery in house and had it made to measure in their own atelier, so the door edges and the panel joints line up cleanly against the pale stone stair.

Cobalt blue lacquered panels set the tone in the living room, framing white high gloss joinery and a sculptural ceiling light. The velvet sofas, the blue cushions and the walnut table with its brass inlay were chosen to sit against that blue rather than compete with it. The whole room was drawn up and rendered in photorealistic 3D before the first panel was sprayed.

Dining room

The dining room pairs a grey stone island with a long white table and grey velvet chairs, each one finished with a stitched pocket in the back. Behind it runs a wall of dark wood joinery with a glass fronted drinks shelf and an integrated wine cabinet, built to measure in the Marcotte Style atelier. Embroidered sheer curtains soften the window wall and catch the light from the chandelier.

The television lounge is lined in cobalt blue lacquered panels with a velvet corner sofa and a sculptural ceiling light.

Kitchen

The kitchen keeps to white and taupe high gloss fronts with a pale stone island that doubles as bar seating. A row of clustered glass pendants with filament bulbs hangs the full length of the island from a slim polished rail. Layout, fronts and lighting were designed by the in house interior architects and installed by the same team that delivered the rest of the house.

Bedroom

A textured wall panel runs behind the bed, grazed by a slim light strip set underneath it rather than a ceiling fitting. The headboard is built into a low run of white joinery that returns along both sides of the bed and carries recessed niches, so bedside storage and headboard read as one piece. A pierced lantern and a zigzag woven cushion on white bed linen keep the palette quiet, and the panel was made to measure so it reads as one continuous surface.

Dressing room

The dressing room is a narrow corridor lined on both sides with white high gloss wardrobes, with a full height mirror wall that doubles its width. A slim white vanity ledge runs under the mirror on one side and returns as a seat in the alcove opposite, both in the same gloss finish. The joinery was drawn in house and made to measure so the handle lines and the panel joints run through without a break.

Bathroom

Both bathrooms are clad in marble, with floating vanities that leave the floor clear underneath. The master has a dark stone shower enclosure and a countertop basin under a tall chrome mixer, while the second bathroom pairs a wood clad mirror surround with a walk in shower in wood effect tile. Stone, joinery and fit out were handled by Marcotte Style with one point of contact from A to Z.

The guest cloakroom is treated as a small feature room, with three zebra prints hung on a dark panel that is lit from behind. Panel and lighting were drawn in house and installed by the Marcotte Style team along with the rest of the ground floor.

A contemporary interior like this only reads as calm if the measurements are right, so nothing was improvised. Every room was drawn in plan and then rendered as photorealistic 3D of the actual space, which is how the high gloss lacquer of the kitchen, the faceted stone of the island and the dark panelling of the hall could be specified to the same tolerances and still meet cleanly at every junction. The dark timber that clads the entrance hall reappears around the dining area, the marble of the bathroom picks up the greys of the stone island, and the crystal of the dining chandelier is answered by the glass pendants clustered over the kitchen.
