AXXES Bar and Restaurant, Antwerp

What we did

At AXXES in Antwerp, Marcotte Style took on the bar and brasserie as one interior. The wall cladding, the partitions, the bar, the counters, the tables, the seating and the lighting were part of a single commission and were installed by our own team.

The restaurant floor is built around barn wood: full height boards on the walls and partitions, with a steel top rail carrying planters of tall grasses that break the long room into smaller settings. The chairs and banquettes were made to measure in our own atelier in ochre and taupe velvet, with buttoned backs, nailhead trim and light oak tops on black steel bases. Filament pendants hang low over each table so the light stays at eye level and the timber keeps its texture.

The main bar has a curved front in a backlit stone look panel with a green LED band running its full length, set against a wall of bottles and a hand painted mural. Upstairs a second bar takes a quieter line: an oak counter over a red tiled base, with blue velvet stools on black frames. The service station and the columns are clad in the same barn wood boards as the restaurant, drawn up in advance in photorealistic 3D so every board line meets the steel and the tiling cleanly.

A room of this size only works when it is planned as a whole. The layout was drawn up and worked out in photorealistic 3D before production, so the barnwood partitions divide the floor into readable zones, the high tables and the lower seating groups keep their circulation clear, and the bar sits at the natural focus of the room.

The photographs show one material line held across a large surface. Reclaimed barnwood runs over the walls, the partitions, the columns and the front of the bar. Dark steel returns in the table bases, the stool frames and the exposed ceiling. The upholstery stays within a range of cognac, tan, ochre and deep blue velvet that picks up the warmth of the wood, and filament pendants and track spots keep the tables lit while the ceiling stays dark.
