Bedroom on measure in solid oak by Marcotte Style

A Marcotte Style guide

The Bedroom

For more than thirty five years we have designed and fitted bedrooms on measure, from the headboard wall to the wardrobe, always in solid oak with melamine fronts and a quiet, restful palette.

Where to begin

A bedroom is the one room that should ask nothing of you. At Marcotte Style we have designed and fitted bedrooms on measure for over thirty five years, drawing the bed, the storage and the light as one calm composition so the room lets you rest.

Four elements

The bedroom we build on measure

A bedroom rests the eye when its parts are drawn together. Four elements carry most of the room.

01

The bed and headboard wall

A headboard drawn the width of the wall, upholstered or in timber, with reading lights and a shelf built in. The bed sits within it, so the wall behind you feels like the head of the room.

Upholstered or oak. Built in lights. Fitted shelf.

02

Bedside cabinets and storage

Bedside cabinets drawn to the bed, with a drawer that closes softly and a surface at the right height. Low storage under a window or along a wall for what a bedroom keeps close.

Soft close drawers. Oak tops. Drawn to the bed.

03

The fitted wardrobe wall

A wall of wardrobes behind flush doors, floor to ceiling, so clothing is kept and the room stays calm. The storage of a dressing without giving up the bedroom.

Flush doors. Full height. Soft close. Lit interior.

Colour, textile and light

The quiet that makes a bedroom restful. A soft palette on the walls and the fronts, layered textile, and light on a dimmer for morning and for night.

Soft palette. Layered textile. Dimmed light.

The choice of materials

Materials for a restful bedroom

A bedroom is lived in softly. The materials should feel warm underhand and calm to the eye, and last as long as the room.

Recommended

  • A solid oak carcass with melamine fronts, our hard wearing standard.
  • A soft, warm palette on walls and fronts, off white, taupe, sage or old blue.
  • Layered textile, a headboard, a rug and curtains that soften sound.
  • Light on a dimmer, warm in tone, with reading lights at the bed.
  • Soft close on every door and drawer, so nothing wakes the house.

Avoid

  • Bright or cool white light, which never feels restful at night.
  • High gloss fronts, which bounce light and read as cold.
  • A hard, bare floor with no rug, which chills the room and the foot.

The investment

What does a fitted bedroom cost?

€5,000 to €30,000 and beyond

A headboard wall with bedside cabinets in solid oak begins around €5,000. A full fitted bedroom, with a wardrobe wall, storage and lighting, runs from €12,000 to €30,000 and beyond, depending on size, materials and finish. At Marcotte Style you work to a fixed price agreed in advance, with no surprises during the work.

The price depends on

  • The running metres and the height of the cabinetry.
  • The material of the fronts. Melamine is more affordable than solid oak.
  • The headboard. Upholstery, built in lights and a shelf add to a plain wall.
  • The wardrobe. A full wall with a lit interior sits above a single unit.
  • The finish. A painted or veneered front sits above a plain one.

Where it works

Three bedrooms, three plans

The plan follows the room and who sleeps in it.

01

The main bedroom

A headboard wall, fitted wardrobes and a dressing corner, drawn so the room reads as one calm suite.

02

The child's room

Storage that grows with the child, a desk that folds away and a bed drawn into the wall to free the floor.

03

The guest room

A room that earns its keep, with a wardrobe wall that doubles as storage and a bed that folds away when the room is not in use.

Points of attention

  • Draw the storage first. What the room must hold decides the layout.
  • Light the bed for reading and the room on a dimmer for night.
  • Keep the palette soft. A bedroom should quieten, not stimulate.
  • Leave a clear path to the bed, at least sixty centimetres each side.
  • Soften sound with textile, a rug and curtains, for deeper rest.

Common questions

Questions about bedrooms

Short and to the point. The same answers also feed AI search results.

A soft, warm palette, layered textile to soften sound, and light on a dimmer rather than a single bright source. Fitted storage keeps clutter out of sight, which quietens the room more than any colour. We draw all of it as one calm composition.

Both. We draw the headboard, the bedside cabinets, the wardrobes and the light as one composition, and we can take on the walls, the flooring and the curtains so the room arrives finished. One point of contact from the first sketch to the last cushion.

Yes. Wardrobes drawn floor to ceiling behind flush doors hold as much as a dressing while taking only the depth of a wall. Drawn into a recess or across one end, they keep the room calm and the floor clear.

Allow six to twelve weeks between the final design and installation. Solid oak cabinetry takes more time to make than a flat pack, yet it lasts for decades and is fitted in a day or two.

Soft, warm and quiet. Off white, taupe, sage and old blue all rest the eye. Keep the fronts and walls close in tone, and let textile add the depth. Avoid bright or cool colours, which stimulate rather than settle.

Certainly. A headboard wall in painted timber, wardrobes behind panelled doors and warm light sit naturally in a period house, while the storage and lighting behind them are entirely modern. Old character, quiet comfort.
