Bathroom on measure with a stone vanity by Marcotte Style

A Marcotte Style guide

The Bathroom

For more than thirty five years we have designed and fitted bathrooms on measure, from the vanity to the last tile, always with solid oak, natural stone and melamine fronts that stand up to a wet room.

Where to begin

A bathroom is the first room you use each morning and the last each night. At Marcotte Style we have designed and fitted bathrooms on measure for over thirty five years, drawing the vanity, the storage and the stone as one composition so the room feels calm and holds together.

Four elements

The bathroom we build on measure

A bathroom reads as one piece when its parts are drawn together. Four elements carry most of the room.

01

The vanity unit

A basin unit drawn to the wall, with drawers that run past the plumbing and a stone or timber top. Single or double, wall hung to keep the floor clear, or floor standing for weight and presence.

Stone top. Oak drawers. Wall hung. Soft close.

02

Tall storage and linen

Full height columns for towels, linen and everything a bathroom hides. Drawn beside the vanity or into a recess, so nothing sits on the floor or the sill.

Full height. Ventilated. Moisture resistant fronts.

03

The mirror and cabinet

A lit mirror with storage behind it, drawn the width of the vanity. Light from the sides for a true reflection, a shaver point and a demister hidden inside.

Lit mirror. Hidden cabinet. Side lighting.

04

The bath surround and stone

A bath set into a stone surround, or a walk in shower drawn in the same stone as the floor, so the wet zone reads as one calm surface.

Natural stone. Continuous surface. Fitted surround.

Materials for a wet room

What stands up in a bathroom

A bathroom is warm, wet and used every day. The materials have to take it, and still look made rather than bought.

Recommended

  • Natural stone tops, Belgian bluestone or a honed marble, sealed against water.
  • Melamine fronts, moisture resistant and hard wearing, our standard for fronts.
  • A solid oak or veneered carcass, finished to take the damp.
  • Brass or stainless fittings that will not pit or stain.
  • Ventilation and a demister, planned in from the start.

Avoid

  • Chipboard carcasses, which swell the first time they get wet.
  • High gloss fronts, which show every water spot and fingerprint.
  • Untreated timber at floor level, which greys and lifts over time.

The investment

What does a bathroom on measure cost?

€6,000 to €40,000 and beyond

A fitted vanity with a stone top begins around €6,000. A full bathroom on measure, with vanity, tall storage, a lit mirror and stone, runs from €18,000 to €40,000 and beyond, depending on size, materials and fittings. At Marcotte Style you work to a fixed price agreed in advance, with no surprises during the work.

The price depends on

  • The size of the room and the running metres of cabinetry.
  • The stone. A marble top sits well above a composite or a timber one.
  • The fittings. Taps, a walk in shower and a demister add to the base.
  • The material of the fronts. Melamine is more affordable than a painted timber.
  • The detailing. A continuous stone floor, hidden lighting, a fitted mirror.

Where it works

Three bathrooms, three plans

The plan follows the room. Three arrangements cover most homes.

01

The ensuite

Off the main bedroom, where a double vanity and a walk in shower turn a small room into a private retreat.

02

The family bathroom

The room that takes the most use, where storage and a bath earn their place beside the shower.

03

The guest cloakroom

A small space where a fitted vanity and a mirror do the work, drawn to make a tight room feel considered.

Points of attention

  • Plan the plumbing before the cabinetry. The pipes decide what the vanity can be.
  • Light the mirror from the sides, not only above, for a true reflection.
  • Keep storage off the floor, so cleaning is quick and the room feels larger.
  • Seal the stone. A honed top needs sealing to shrug off water and soap.
  • Ventilate well. A demister and an extractor keep a bathroom sound for decades.

Common questions

Questions about bathrooms

Short and to the point. The same answers also feed AI search results.

Natural stone tops, a solid oak or veneered carcass finished for damp, and melamine fronts that resist moisture. Brass or stainless fittings that will not pit. Avoid chipboard carcasses and high gloss fronts, which swell and mark in a wet room.

Both. We draw the vanity, the storage, the mirror and the stone as one composition, and we can take on the tiling, the lighting and the plumbing so the room arrives finished. One point of contact from the first sketch to the last tile.

A fitted vanity with a stone top begins around €6,000. A full bathroom on measure runs from €18,000 to €40,000 and beyond, depending on size, materials and fittings. Marcotte Style works to a fixed price agreed in advance.

Yes, and it is where fitted work earns its place. A vanity drawn to the wall, storage into a recess and a mirror the width of the room make a tight bathroom feel considered rather than cramped.

Allow eight to fourteen weeks between the final design and installation, longer if we take on the tiling and plumbing. Solid work takes time to make, yet it lasts for decades.

Belgian bluestone and honed marble both suit a bathroom, sealed against water and soap. Composite is an option where a lighter budget or a bright colour is wanted. We show samples at the design stage.

Certainly. A fitted vanity in painted timber with a stone top and brass taps sits naturally in a period house, while the storage and lighting behind it are entirely modern. Old character, quiet comfort.
