How to Choose the Perfect Dining Table
The dining table is the piece your home gathers around, so it is worth choosing carefully. Here is how to find one that fits your room, your daily life and your style.
Start with the room, not the table
Measure your space first. Leave at least one metre between the table edge and the nearest wall or furniture so chairs can pull out comfortably. In a country classic interior, a generous solid-oak table anchors the room, so give it room to breathe rather than squeezing in the largest size.

Choose the right size
As a rule, allow around 60 cm of table width per person. A table of 180 to 200 cm comfortably seats six, while 240 cm and up suits eight or more. If you host often, an extendable table gives you everyday intimacy with occasional capacity.

Round, oval or rectangular?
Rectangular tables suit longer rooms and larger gatherings. Round and oval tables encourage conversation and soften a square room. Whichever you choose, keep the silhouette simple and let the material speak.

Material and finish
Solid oak is the heart of the country classic look: warm, durable and beautiful as it ages. Pair it with upholstered linen chairs and a statement light above to complete the scene. Browse the dining tables collection to see the range.

Pull the room together
A table is the start, not the finish. See how the full dining room comes together in our dining room guide, and read the wider country classic style guide for the room-by-room approach. When you are ready, our designers can help through the contact page.
