Massiv oak in its natural grain, panel doors with mouldings, antique finds alongside bespoke pieces. The style most people picture when they think of a "true country home". Works best in old farmhouses, manor homes and renovated country estates.
Straight cabinet doors without panel or moulding, one consistent wood, neutral tones (greige, taupe, matte black). The country soul stays, the ornament leaves. Our most requested style in 2026.
The most polished country variant. Architectural straight lines, darker palette (matte black, anthracite, dark oak), heavy natural stone and minimal styling. Suits modern villas and penthouses where warmth is wanted without rusticity.
Painted shaker cabinets in muted green, soft blue or off-white. Open shelving, floral patterns in textiles, antique porcelain accents. Works in smaller spaces and for those who want a clear English cottage feel.
With the right products for each space
The living room is where country living usually goes wrong: too much wood, too many cushions, too much pattern. What works is one focal piece, three supporting elements, and the rest quiet.
In a country home the dining table is the heart, not an accessory. A long solid wood table, with chairs that can vary in form but share a tone. A pendant light hung low to define the table.
A country bedroom is an exercise in restraint. The bed can have character (a nice headboard, a wooden frame), but otherwise keep it calm: max two colours, simple textiles, no clutter above the bed.
In a country home the kitchen belongs with the dining area. No sharp separation, no 24-module look. Honest materials, a sink block in bluestone or natural stone, and open elements that actually get used.
The often-ignored spaces (office, dressing, entrance, reading nook) are where country style becomes personal. A solid desk beneath a window, a cabinet in a niche, a reading chair beside a lamp.
What we use as standard, and what we avoid
The signature material. Oiled or lye-treated, never veneered. Ages along with the home, stays beautiful for 30+ years.
For curtains, cushions, sofa upholstery. Wrinkles softly, breathes, looks natural over time.
For worktops, sink blocks and floors. Retains warmth, scratches that fade into patina, ages elegantly.
For hardware, lighting and accents. Patinates to a rich golden-brown tone over years.
Five tones that appear in every Marcottestyle project. Combine two or three, never all five.
The biggest reason an interior looks catalogue-like is not the furniture. It is the lighting. A country home needs four layers minimum, not one.
Avoid LED strips in skirtings. Avoid ceiling spotlights in the living room. Use dimmers throughout.
Wooden floor, table, cabinet, beams, TV unit. At some point it feels like a log cabin. Keep at least one large surface non-wood.
Fake ceiling beams that carry nothing structural look immediately cheap. If the home does not have them, do not add them.
One bold pattern per room, max two subtler ones. Four cushions per sofa, not eight. The eye needs rest points.
Eiche, walnut, cherry and pine together makes a room visually restless. Pick one main wood species and commit.
Works for a clinic, not for living. Add table, floor and accent lights for depth.
High-gloss MDF with wood print. Composite worktops with "stone look". PVC floors with "oak appearance". These age within 3 years.
Terrakotta floors and bright yellow walls work in the Provence. In Flemish light they become kitsch. Work with regional proportions.

Country classic interior design uses natural materials (solid wood, natural stone, linen), warm tones, and craftsmanship-driven details. Marcottestyle combines this with our own furniture collection so you get advice and products from one source.
Classic country uses panel doors, mouldings, antique furniture and warm wood tones. Modern country keeps the natural materials but uses straighter lines, neutral colours (greige, taupe, soft black) and minimal ornament. Modern country has been the most requested variant in Belgium since 2024.
A living room setup (sofa, coffee table, cabinet, lighting, rug, decoration) ranges from 8,000 to 25,000 euros depending on brand choices. A complete home interior through Marcottestyle (all rooms, bespoke, with guidance) ranges from 40,000 to 150,000 euros.
Off-white, greige, warm taupe, and natural wood tones are the base. Accents in brass, bronze or matte black give character. Avoid bright or pure colours.
Yes, in the modern country variant. Straight architecture pairs well with warm materials (oak, linen, leather) as long as the lines stay calm. Avoid antiques or heavy mouldings in a sharply modern home.
Yes, the kitchen island is one of the most requested elements. Marcottestyle designs islands with a solid oak base and natural stone worktop. Minimum required space: 3m wide, 4m long.
